Henry Putzel, III (nicknamed “Pete”) is Counsel to Morvillo LLP in its New York office. Mr. Putzel focuses as a defense lawyer on both criminal and civil white collar cases and attorney disciplinary matters.

Mr. Putzel graduated from Yale College (B.A., cum laude, 1964) and the Yale Law School (J.D., 1968). From 1968-1970 he was associated with Davis Polk and Wardwell. From 1970-1974 he served as an Assistant United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York. While serving in the Criminal Division of that office, he received the Assistant United States Attorney’s Award “for superior performance as an Assistant United States Attorney.”

From 1974-1979 he served as Associate Professor of Law at the Fordham University School of Law, where he taught courses in Professional Responsibility, Evidence, Trial Advocacy and Constitutional Problems in Criminal Law. He continues to teach Trial Advocacy and Advanced Trial Advocacy at Fordham Law School as an Adjunct Professor of Law and as co-ordinator of Fordham’s Trial Advocacy program. In 1997 he was honored by Fordham’s Student Bar Association as a co-recipient of the Eugene J. Keefe Memorial Award “for outstanding contributions and service to the Fordham Community.”

Mr. Putzel entered private practice in 1979. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the New York State Bar Association, the New York City Bar Association, the New York Council of Defense Lawyers and the Federal Bar Council. Mr. Putzel is a Past President of the Federal Bar Council American Inn of Court and is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. He is a past Trustee of the Federal Bar Foundation and currently serves on the Board of the Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation. From 1995 through the present, Mr. Putzel has served as a member of the Magistrate-Judge Selection Panel for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York and, from 1998 through 2000 served as Chair of the panel.

Mr. Putzel is the recipient of the 2005 American Inns of Court Professionalism Award, conferred jointly by the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and the American Inns of Court.
